And Deep Down I Knew

This morning during the brief moments I gathered my thoughts in the shower, I was reminded of the pregnancies with my boys. With each one, hubby and I knew what their name would be if they were a boy, but we never had a good feeling about a girl name. With this pregnancy, the only name we feel is right, is truly the name of this baby, is a girl's name.

So I wondered if that was an indication. So many parts of me felt like I was carrying a daughter, the first daughter for our family of sons, but was that just a secret desire? Was it something I was longing for?

When the ultrasound technician was showing us our baby for the first time on the screen today, I was mesmerized by the beating heart. The little arms moving, legs bent, ribs showing. I was in awe at this life inside me, living and moving around and safe. When she asked if we'd like to know if it was a boy or girl, we said yes please. But until that moment I kinda forgot to look for that "part."
I was lost in the miracle.

I keep playing it over and over in my mind. Her pointing the little computer arrow to my baby's underside and saying, "it's a little girl."

Smiles filled the room and I just looked at her and said "are you sure are you sure are you sure?" Because we've never been this way before. My baby was giving us quite the show and the tech said she is very sure.

And we are very excited. And walking on clouds. And smiling. A lot. We've never been this way before, and I'm liking the change of scenery already.

CONGRATS!!! I just got goose bumps!!!

As the only girl with three brothers myself let me tell you: they will annoy her until she is about 22. Then they will become her best friends.

Sniff.

This makes me all teary (again...I've been doing that a lot lately...), and I'm so just HAPPY. Happy for you, for all your boys, for the sweetie that has already joined your family. I wonder if she will be like you, or like your hubz. I can't wait to meet her!

P.S. If it's the year of the girl, do I need to get started?

Congrats! You are going to love having a girl! Although I don't have a boy, so I can't say for sure, but seriously, a girl is so much more fun! I'm sure even more fun after 3 boys, just as the differences I'm sure will be so much more distinct. My sister is the reverse. She had 3 girls in a row and in January had her first boy :)
Anyways, congrats!!!

Congratulations! We kind of felt that way too...before the ultrasound we had picked out a lot of different names, but only one name really stuck and it was a boy name. So when the u/s tech said it was a boy, I don't think we were really surprised (even though we both cried a little!)

Oh yay!!!! Congratulations! I can imagine how you're feeling. As the mom of only ONE boy, it took awhile for it to sink in that I'm having a girl baby, the *other* kind of baby, and quite frankly when I'm buying girl clothes it feels like I'm buying them for someone else. Our little girls will only be a few weeks apart... and I can't wait to find out what her name is. :)

I'm beyond happy for you, Steph. You have no idea how much having a daughter is going to change your entire household. Fun, fun, fun.

Krissy and Andy took me with them for the ultrasounds for both my grandbabies, and with Avery, as soon as the doctor told me what I was seeing (think hamburger buns) it was as obvious as could be we were getting a baby girl.

Oh, congratulations! I know how excited you are. :-)

Hi Steph,
I decided to de-lurk because I just have to say "Congratulations!!" I'm so happy for you! My family is the exact opposite - I'm the oldest of four - two sisters and a baby brother (who's now 6'5"!) and man does he get spoiled! (He also gets mothered to death!)

Enjoy your little girl! and again, Congratulations!!!

Congrats! I know what you mean about having a "feeling" because of the name, that is exactly how we were with Little.

Have fun buying pink and purple and girly things.

Oh Steph, I just want to see you RIGHT this very moment so I can hug that beautiful belly and tell that little girl that I can't wait to meet her. This post made me cry and remember the day of our ultrasound where we got the same news. Especially since you know the name, the whole pregnancy, the way you interact with that baby has changed and I am just so excited for you guys. I love you so much.
