Dear Lord,
Thou knowest better than I myself that I am growing older and will someday be old. Keep me from the fatal habit of thinking I must say something on every subject and on every occasion. Release me from craving to straighten out everybody's affairs. Make me thoughtful but not moody, helpful but not bossy. With my vast store of wisdom it seems a pity not to use it all, but Thou knowest, Lord, that I must have a few friends at the end.
-Ruth Bell Graham

That is an amazing quote, and one I needed to read today and often.

ReplyDeleteLove it.
ReplyDeleteOh my. This for me. I'm going to copy this down and remember it.
ReplyDeleteI saw some "guru" interviewed on a talkshow and he posed the question is it better to be "right or nice" in certain situations. While I know that there is right and wrong and I am convicted to stand up for what I believe in, a reminder of humility is always needed.
Oh, AMEN! I don't think I got a handle on my tongue until I was 30. Well that implies that I do have a handle on it, but trust me, compared to when I was 22, I do.
ReplyDeleteI just jotted that down to keep, too.
