Babywearing Tip Of The Week: Your Stories

My friend Jess at Tangential Thoughts recently wrote a great post on her babywearing experiences.

She writes:
I love to babywear because it is very practical, frees up the parents' hands and allows them to go about their daily life while giving the baby a safe place to cuddle, nurse or nap. With Ella I used my pouch slings and my Mei Tai the most. This time around I am planning on wrapping more just because it is the most comfortable way that I've tried to carry a baby, especially once they are heavier and with a wrap you can wear the baby in countless ways- on your back, your hip, on your front. And then there are variations on all the ways you can wrap the baby in those positions.

Funny enough, yesterday the kids and I met Bob at the Cracker Barrel for dinner because he had class and that would be his only time to quickly see the kids. I wore Gabriel in my Hotsling and I had at least five people come up to me asking me what he was in. My waitress was excited to see one in person since she had just seen an E! special about hot trends with celebrities and baby carriers were on the countdown. I had no idea that I was fashion forward for once!

Read more here to learn about the many carriers Jess owns and what she'd like to wear her baby in next!

  1. I have to add that yesterday I was out doing a few errands downtown and Gray had fallen asleep in the car. I haven't worn him in a long time and was SO GLAD I had a pouch with me! He slept the entire time which actually allowed me to shop longer and more peacefully than I had planned!

  2. People are always amazed when they see my wearing the baby. But I have had some negative responses as well. People are so weird sometimes. Once when I was wearing little E on my back at Wegman's someone said, "oh, you have a baby in there!" all snotty like I was in the way with her. Most people are very curious and that makes me happy because I know they will pass on how efficient it is to baby wear and shop to moms to be.

  3. When I'd wear Brennan in my sling (facing out) when he was more of a baby, people ALWAYS stopped us! I got used to it quickly. They always said it was such a neat idea, and that he looked so cute with just his little head popping out. :) It was super easy.
AND now he's mobile. Ha! Not so easy any more. ;)

  7. I'm seriously considering getting a Moby Wrap for my next baby (whenever that is!). I've not done babywearing before, but it seems so practical.

    Thanks for all the tips!

  8. I love wearing my baby out here! It's a small town, and I have yet to see another sling out here. We get so many stares and questions and comments. I love it! Our babies did, too.

  10. The BEST comment I ever got was when I had my daughter wrapped on my back while crossing a busy college campus. A football player said, "Dude, mama, you got a little chick chillin in the backseat!"

  11. Babywearing is great for so many reasons! Too many to list. Last week I got my eyebrows waxed with DD in the backpack!

  12. I haven't gotten to babywear with a young baby, yet. I only discovered it recently, but I loved having the option with my toddler. She loved to be worn. The first time I put her in a mei tai, she was throwing a fit. I put her in and she calmed right down. She willingly ate some of her dinner. It was amazing! She loved to be in it when she was tired or just needed extra love!

She is getting too big, now and being pregnant makes it harder, so I am looking forward to having this baby out and in a wrap!
