The Deets

I am about 7 weeks along- give or take a few days.

I am amazed at how such a tiny little thing living inside me can cause SO MANY changes and feelings and sickness and so forth. How does this happen!?!?

I am feeling a bit better every day as far as the morning sickness goes, but I don't feel up for talking about food just yet, smelling it, reading about it, and/or preparing it. Although I think I could eat the black bean soup from Billy Jack's all day and all night and be just fine. Oh, with the homemade bread of course.

I am hoping to have a human baby. No aliens or puppies, please! (Someday I'll have to tell you about 4 pregnancies worth of crazy dreams.) If this baby is a boy or girl I will be THRILLED and relieved. And of course I know you only mean well when you wish upon a woman with all boys that you hope she has a girl, but I already know that's what everyone is thinking, so no need to say it really. I don't know where 'having all boys' got a bad rep anyway. Mine are angels! I hope I have a healthy baby. All boy or all girl sounds great to me!

We are planning a midwife-assisted home birth. I probably will do water birth- not sure yet. Hubby jokes that he doesn't think we need any assistance, really, except for maybe afterwards, and I'll admit a huge part of me wonders if we'll end up having this baby on our own anyway. Since my labors have gotten shorter & shorter, it's possible. I delivered Gray by myself in the hospital but then a doctor ran in to help afterward. I'll definitely try to give my midwife as much notice as possible!

  1. I have an online friend who has 5 daughters and she loves it! I think they are going for a 6th and they honestly don't care if they have another girl. I think four boys would be neat!

  2. i got the same thing with this pregnancy, although it's only my second..."oh, i hope it's a girl...", and "oh, it would be so nice if it was a girl this time!" my response was always, "i just want a healthy baby," and when you say this, no one believes you. they're just sure you want a girl. when i found out it was a boy, someone actually said, "oh, i'm sorry." i just said, "i'm not. if he's anything like the one i've already got, i'll be thrilled."

  3. Sounds like your a pro when it comes to l & d. Did you deliver at a birth center or hospital for your first three?

  4. I had a midwife with my first pregnancy and she was wonderful! I recommend it to anyone. I ended up having an emergency c-section so my next 2 pregnancies were with my Doctor. Not nearly the high level of care I got from my midwife. Best wishes hope you feel better soon!

  7. Glad you're feeling better! A water birth sounds cool, I'll be interested to see how you feel about that experience afterwards.

  9. a friend of mine got the same remarks when she was pregnant w/ baby #3 after already having 2 boys. it was rather upsetting to her too. i think people mean well, but don't always think before they speak. you do make beautiful amazing boys and i think a 4th would make a wonderful addition. :)
i didn't realize you gave birth to gray by yourself in the hospital. you go, mama!
i'm excited about your home birth. it was such an amazing experience for me. though i know it's not for everyone, i wish all women would explore the option.
    hugs.

  10. I had fast labors too. My firstborn came out when there was no doctor or nurse in the room! Good luck with your homebirth. How exciting.

  11. ah stephanie, hopefully you will be feeling better very, very soon! it is crazy how much those first weeks of pregnancy can take out of you!!

i love homebirth. i have 4 kiddos and the first 2 were born with an OB in the hospital and the next 2 births were with midwives. i would definitely recommend waterbirth... it is lovely!!

  12. oh wow! I didn't know you delieverd Gray on your own. That's cool. Power to the mom!

Boy or Girl [and I agree having all boys does have a bad rep and it sucks!] I am praying for a healthy baby and a healthy mom to be!

    Congrats again

  15. Ah, the first trimester. The reason I will never have any more children! lol.

I am so excited to read your blog as you go through your fourth pregnancy. Your birthing choices sound fantastic! I enjoyed my homebirth much more than the hospital birth.

  17. I'm excited for you to have a midwife assisted homebirth. I had both my children with a midwife (my mom.. hee hee) and another midwife. Amelia was a waterbirth. Have the pool as an option, you can at least labor in it. =) I'm SO exicted for you.

Will you find out what your having? I have a list of different things people can do for morning sickness if you would like me to send it to you. =)

You'll have to do the weekly/monthly preggo picture for us all.

  18. Well, I may be the oddball, but I'm more excited at the thought of you having another BOY! lol.
I think there is something so incredibly sweet about all boys. I know I'd love having a daughter, too, but ALL BOYS is just, I don't know...
    But I LOVE it.

Either way, I'm glad you're feeling a little better!

  19. Push it out, shove it out, wayyyy out! lol

I'm sure you'll do an awesome job whether in the water or not.

And I know that we'd hear the "bet you want a girl" if we got pregnant again...I bet it does get old fast ;)

Many blessings to you and your little baby bean.

  20. I've experienced the same, "Are you hoping for a girl this time?" stuff with my second and third pregnancies. All boys here and proud of it.
Glad to hear you are feeling better as the days go by. And black bean soup sounds soooo good! I'll have to try some sometime. :)

  22. You delivered him by yourself? You GO GIRL!

  23. I feel for you. I was so sick during my pregnancy that they had to prescribe Zolfran. It cost $20/pill! On a positive note, they say that the sicker you feel, the healthier the baby is!

  24. You are brave=) Home birth kinda scares me..haha. I am not against it don't get me wrong!

And you have the right attitude because boys are wonderful and so are girls!!

  25. You are such a pro! I'm sure you could deliver the baby at home with just your hubbie!!!

I have been wanting to ask you a question... if you could buy just ONE sling/wrap/whatever... what would you buy? I have a Bjorn and a Hot Sling from my first baby, but now I'm 35 weeks preggo with my second and thinking maybe I need something different. I didn't like the Bjorn so I probably wont even use it. But what is your all time favorite way to wear your baby (or toddler!)?
    Thanks!!!

  26. Steph, I really hope you have a boy, because I don't think the name "Quatro" works nearly as well for a girl.

And, here's a verse I think will mean a lot to you: Exodus 1:19.

  27. so, so, so excited to meet this little bean what ever gender may be! And the homebirth should be beautiful, you're such a pro. I can't wait to watch your belly grow! ;)

  29. I have three boys as well, and I am sooooo sick of hearing all the "are you going to try for a girl?" comments. How does one even DO that? Whatever.
I would love a 4th child, but I am honestly not looking forward to everyone's mean comments and questions.
I love my boys. I'm so blessed to have them. I know you feel the same way.
I am so thrilled for you.

  30. So glad you are starting to feel better. And I for sure hope you have a human too!!!! LOL!

  31. I love having multiple boys and hated getting those comments, too. Everyone just assumed I wanted a girl with the last one. I really wanted another boy. I have all the little boy stuff and if we tried for another baby, I'd be hoping for another boy. People just don't believe me until I get really detailed, even cruel about how much I think having a girl would stink! And moms of all girls are often just as adamant about how happy and how wonderful daughters are.

I'm sending more boy vibes - why mess with a good thing - you already know you make adorable boys!

  32. congratulations! (From a "boy Mommy" of 3)! Boys are such fun but I still get comments about "gonna try for that girl, etc.". I love my boys and 3 is all for me!

  33. I have enjoyed reading your blog. I am a babywearing mama also. Me and some friends just started a website to raise money for a project in West Africa. The more traffic we get the more money we raise so we are trying to get the word spread. It is www.dosomegoodnow.com If you can check it out and if you like it spread the word. Thank you.

  35. Just tuning in for the first time in awhile so CONGRATULATIONS to you and your family!! That's very exciting :)

I hope everything goes great for you and that the sickness and food repulsions go away soon!

  36. I just found out I'm pregnant with my first--no one knows yet but my husband and me. I'm a max of 3 weeks and had my first bout of throwing up today. I throw up at the drop of a hat when I'm not pregnant (motion sickness, reflux), so I have a feeling everyone at work will know I'm pregnant before too long if they keep hearing the puking coming from my office. My husband and I are hoping for a boy or a girl too...I don't want to know ahead of time, but he does.

  37. congratulations! How exciting. I just had my fourth and I tell ya it is fantastic! Praying for 9 months of safe & good health for you!

  38. It's funny, I am pregnant with my first child and my husband and I really wanted to have a little girl in the beginning. Then we found out that we are having a boy, and we are so excited. I now cannot imagine having a girl because I am all into the boy stuff! I hope that you are feeling better soon. I really like your blog!

  39. A new baby on the way is just so exciting! Sorry you're having to deal with the icky-sickies, but you know that it is worth it in the end.

  41. Congratulations! I'm due around the same time as you. I've been very, very sick this time too. It worries me a bit as my only other pregnancy that left me ill was with my twins...
