Remember when McDonald's had the outdoor playland? That was the best. Probably much less germ infested than the lame indoor contraptions now, too. And eating there was a treat, an occasion, not part of your weekly menu and you would never have eaten it in the car! I found a photo online of the Hamburglar jail thing you could sit in and have secret clubs. Loved that.
I am about Noah's age in this photo- I'm guessing 1st grade. I'd like to recapture the pure innocence and happiness in my expression here. Not a care in the world... good times.

Am I the only one craving McDonald's fries and a Coke now?

That's a good throwback! Old Macdonalds (as Zach calls it) just isn't what it used to be!
ReplyDeleteI forgot all about the actual outdoor ones...the ham burglar! Wow...forgot about that!
ReplyDeleteNo! We use to play in the hamburglar jail house too! Makes me want McDonalds, which I hate! Yuck! But such good memories!

Awesome! Get ready for this...OURS STILL HAS AN OUTDOOR PLAYGROUND!! :)
ReplyDeleteI used to love going to the McDonald's playplace on Central in the town you used to live in. Remember that play house they had? I think it was very close to the road? They also had that hamburglar jail thing. Fun times. I think the only time we ate McD's as kids was when we went on long road trips. Fun throwback.
ReplyDeleteWow, I haven't thought about McDonald's in ages!! My parents NEVER let us play on the playground. :( But I remember the toys, and everyone trying to figure out just what on earth a Grimace actually was!?
ReplyDeleteCute. I rememeber having a birthday party at McDonald's.
ReplyDeleteI posted on vaccines today. Check it out if you have a moment.

Those were the days. My brother and I loved the outdoor toys. I still like McDonalds on occasion. In fact, a cheeseburger was one of my cravings with each of my 3 pregnancies. Now, my boys (and I am sure our infant daughter will follow) love McDonalds, but it is used as a special treat. We just went for lunch on the first day of preschool.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I miss the Hamburgaler jail thingy!
ReplyDeleteI used to LOVE playing at those! It was definitely a special treat because we usually weren't allowed - mom is a germophobe (that's where I get it, I guess)!
ReplyDeleteHappy TT!

Oh yes, I remember the outdoor playground well! We used to eat there every Friday night before my parents' bowling league. Great pictures! :)
ReplyDeleteI use to love those outdoor playlands.. we have come across a few of the old out side play grounds at a few McD's here and there while we are traveling on vacation. We always stop to let the kids blow off some steam before hopping back in the van for more hours of traveling.
ReplyDeleteLike I said I loved those outside ones.. but it was an every week thing for us.. Our church use to take a group of adults plus a group of kids(that would be me and my friends) to the tuesday night nurseing home services where we would sing and say verses and then some one would preach for the folks in the home and afterwards we would always stop at McD's adults would get coffee and we would get whatever we wanted and the adults would talk while all us kids ran around playing on the play ground. fun times fun times.. I got a kick out of you would never eat it in the car part of your post... because my parents had us eating in the car all the time, Dad didn't like stopping long while we were traveling so drive thur it was for us.. Well not really we would all stop use the restroom and then back in the car with our food. :)
Great Throwback Thursday post.
Oh! That sure does bring back some memories!! :)
ReplyDeletethat's what happens when we get so sue happy, i guess. sad. loved the outdoor playland at mcd's. the one by my grandparents house had this AWESOME indoor playland with a carousel!
ReplyDeleteoh those were the good old days. I totally miss the good old days. our kids probably will never know many of the great things we knew. and that makes me sad!
ReplyDeleteI loved that McDonald's playground! Thanks for the reminder!

ReplyDeleteLoL You made us go to McDonalds today. Just what we need!!!!
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY remember those!! We would hide in the hamburglar for hours!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes - now I'm craving salty fries thanks! :)
That is way too fun! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis may come as a shocker, but where I grew up, we didn't have a McDonalds. What we did have though is the old fashioned A&W that you did eat in your car because the waitresses were on roller skates and your tray hooked onto the window of the driver's side window.
ReplyDeleteI already had my McD's fries today! LOL! Our McD's here has an outside playground, but it's nothing special and it gets super hot! Too hot to slide down the slide. My guess is that they saw what a draw the playground was and made it indoors so that they could get kids coming all year round.
ReplyDeleteCute photo!
OH!! I remember that hamburger jail thing!! AND those hot metal slides!! Those were the days. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat ever happened to those Hamburgler jails anyway? I loved those!
ReplyDeleteCute picture!

ReplyDelete`Arianne
Oh my this burger is scary!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, you just brought me back to my childhood. We ate McDonald's and the big treat was an ice cream cone and a little run around the play land afterwards.....and this happened like 5 time a year!
ReplyDeleteSure do miss the good ol' days.
There's just something special about the '70s!!
ReplyDeleteBack then McDonalds was probably real food too!! haha, not pumped with a bunch of chemicals to make it taste like food!!!! cute pic!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I loved that hamburger jail thing! And the Grimace jail thing you stand in and rock...You're right...definately good times.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, how I totally miss the hamburgler...whatever happened to that guy anyway? :)
ReplyDeleteLove the photo, so fun!
Yep, good times. I remember when McDonald's was a "treat" for us. Do you remember the Bambi figurines? I always remember having Flower from a Happy Meal.
