Ups and Downs and Ups

This past week has been such a roller coaster for me. I am on little sleep- really just catching up the past few nights, but no more 'sleeping in' for me since school has started!

We had flooding from all the storms here, tornado warnings, more flooding. Hubby whipped up a solution to the problem with our basement and we have had no more water coming in the house, Praise God! I am still recovering from an emotionally draining day yesterday. It's not something I feel like blogging about, but some of you can probably tell I am just not myself lately. I should have been focusing on Carter starting his very first day of kindergarten, but my day was just cloudy. I am glad it is over and today is a brand new day.

Carter wanted to have lunch immediately after breakfast today because he goes to Kindergarten right after lunch. He is made for school. Last night at Back To School night, Carter's teacher told us "He sure is a wealth of knowledge with wonderful information!" She said it quite delighted. I told her I almost sent a note in his backpack to warn her of that. He is one of a kind.

He couldn't get on the bus fast enough when it came yesterday, so I didn't get a good picture. I decided to drive to the school so that I could capture him getting off the bus to go into class. This picture just makes me happy. He didn't even stop to say hi- ran right into class. He saw his name immediately, sat in his seat, and started on his work. It was his very first day but he looked like a pro. I know that much of the behavior that our children exhibit is learned from the parents, but I do think that I am learning something new about myself because of them every day.

I've also felt frustrated lately because I am not able to read everyone's blogs as I'd like, and comment, and participate in more of your fun memes and contests and such. I try as much as I can, but often I'll get a moment to sit at the computer and then realize that the playroom really needs to be vacuumed. And on the way to get the vacuum I notice the dishes in the sink. So I get those things done and then have something else to tend to. And lately by evening, I am just too tired to even think about turning on the computer. Then when I do get a chance to catch up, I see that I've missed you having your baby last week, or you having a really fun contest, or you just making a really good point about life. I hate missing out on these things!

I think learning to keep a balance between my real life and my blog life is a constant process. But, I do ask that if you have something big and important that you've just posted about or that is going on in your lives, please email me or comment here to let me know. I hate missing out!

So, to end this on an up... I get a girls night out tonight. My neighbor is having a jewelry party and it will be nice to get out- even if it is just next door.

That's a great picture of Carter getting off the bus! I remember my mom following the bus on my first day of Kindergarten, too!

  3. I hope you are feeling better. I've been a bit overwhelmed lately (I guess you could say by life), so I've cut back on my posts. I am bummed that it means I'm missing out on some great reads at everyone's blog.

    Have a great time tonight!

  4. The confidence in Carter's face is priceless. You would think he has been going for years. This is such a great shot..you should make a collage of his and Noah's first day pics. You will find more time when the schedule gets going...teach Gray how to vacuum...

  6. Oh girl, hang in there! Those cloudy days -- both literally and figuratively -- can be long and draining. Jewelry and girl time is exactly what you need.

And don't you worry about missing out on stuff... we all know how things are, and we all know how great you are.

Enjoy tonight and I pray for sunshine -- both literally and figuratively -- in your life today!

  7. Hey, your going through some major changes. Your little ones are growing up, before your eyes;) I probably speak for all us when I say we understand how busy life can become. Your not missing out, and we don't feel like you don't care anymore. As wives and moms and all the other roles we play, we can get pretty busy:)

  8. Carter is too cute in this picture Steph, it's like he has been doing this for years.
I hope today is a better day for you. Also, remember that you shouldn't try and be superblogmomwifefriend, there is no such name. You have to take care of yourself so you can take care of your family. Remember that commercial I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in the pan... Hog wash, she was telling us lies. Anyway relax, kick up your feet. Your in my prayers.

  9. Look at Carter!!! His teacher is just going to love him. You'll get used to things after a while. Things always settle into a routine.

    Praying for you.....

  11. I'm doing one of those blog hug things now. ((you)) There. Now you should feel all better.
I don't know what's going on in your life, of course, but I hope that everything gets better very soon. Take care of yourself.

  12. Tell me about that no more sleeping in. I'm not 20 anymore and the whole staying up late to wait on my hubby and getting up early to get the kids ready for school is running me ragged. Plus my 3 year old is used to having my 5 year old here to play with all day. So he is trying to adjust and every time I back up he is right behind me.

  13. Some days and weeks are just yucky and you just can't get to "feeling right".... I hope life gets better, easier, more organized, whatever quickly for you! Glad you haven't flooded out again!

  15. i'm sure a girls night out will help. :)

  16. (((STEPH))) you know, when life hands you lemons - it's time to make some Lemonade! Relax with the girls, remember that the kids, your hubby and YOUR life is MUCH more important then "the blog."

Life moves way to fast, kids grow up, friends move away - don't let your "need" to keep up with all us great bloggers make you miss those most important things - they, after all, are why your home and why your such an AWESOME mom!

Chin up! Today it's raining - but tomorrow, the sun will come out, the birds will chirp and God will be right there on your shoulder to help you though the rough spots!

and hey, maybe your so tired because God's blessing you with another little mouth to feed ;) :O

  19. As I mentioned to Sheryl on her blog, your family is so much more important than blogging. I think the thing is, that 99% of your readership understand that you have a family and that your life comes first. That is what makes it so great to have such a beautiful blogging community. We all support one another and understand more than you know.

From the sounds of it, I can see why you are feeling down and overwhelmed. Wow. So much going on and it is just not the little stuff. Try to hang in there and find the humour in the tough times.

  21. hes so darling... about blogging. everyone understands. It can be so demanding... and when my internet was gone (for over 3 weeks!) I realized how much time I dont need to spend online. It was frustrating at times.. cause Id maybe get 30 minutes every other day to get online... which wasnt enough time for what i was doing... but I see now that during the day I shouldnt stress about commenting back or visiting everyone elses blog ... that can wait until the kids are in bed.
Ive gotten so much more done w/out it.

And to be honest ive enjoyed it that way.

  22. I love that you drove to school to get a pic of him getting off the bus. What a little sponge, it's so cool when kids love learning as much as he does.

I hope the sun is shining in on you now even though it's almost midnight. Blogging is a huge time suck, you really do miss out if you aren't doing it all the time and it's so theraputic, but frankly if you are missing that much of, virtually, "strangers" or at least not your family by not reading a few days, imagine how much we're missing when we write, read, comment, etc daily. It's a lot to balance. Honestly I'm happy when I see a blogger go days without an update, I assume they are having great family fun. Or maybe I just don't feel as guilty for not checking it ever day ;)

  23. Oh I hear ya. I'm so thankful that its the weekend, I can't begin to say. We are finally not bailing out our basement for a day.

I've had a reeeeally bad week, so I can commiserate. Hang in there...

  24. I struggle with that balance as well! =P

Hope your night owt was a blast and a great girly girl release!!

  25. Thanks for writing about life being a struggle - I often worry about how much time I'm putting into different aspects of life and whether or not others are suffering. Anyway by the sound of your little boy Carter, your kids are definately not suffering - what a great mum you must be.

    Enjoy your girls night!

  26. I think it has been that kind of week, I have felt the same for the majority of the last 2 weeks. Hang in there. You are an amazing mommy and I hope you had a great mommy's night!

If you need another soon, I know I do, let me know!

  27. Hang in there! This is a busy, hectic time of year!

    Praying for you!

  28. I'm sorry to hear that life is so hectic right now. I'm just now getting back to my Bloglines after being gone for 2 weeks. I feel so disconnected with everyone. And I need to take some time to get my life in order but I'm dying to make my rounds and catch up. All that to say, I understand! Trying to find the balance is a constant battle, isn't it?

  29. I'm sorry you are going through a rough patch. I am actually glad you are not reading my blog so that you can attend to your family and household, rather than letting those things suffer. :)

  30. I know just where you are! I ahd the same issue a few weeks ago, and decided that I had to start "living" b/c blogging was not my real life. EVen though it feels very much real. he..he.. It is a hobby for me and I have to keep things in balance. My family, house and kids get first dibs on my attention...not the blog!

And Zoe starts 1st GRade on Monday. She's also made for school. She has never been one to look back to me for reassurance. She's very independent and driven. I have learned so much about myself by parenting her. My mom recently visited and commented on how much Zoe reminded her of me. I was kind of surprised. Then my mom and I talked about how hard it is to parent a child who doesn't think that they need you or your guidance. LOL!

My friend Jenny, also where you live has had sewer backed up into her basement for days b/c of the rain. She's a single mom and had to clean it out all by herself! Poor thing!! Hope you're feeling on top of your game soon! :-)

  32. While we're not having the crazy floods/rains that you all are having, I can totally relate to the big list of things to do and trying to keep up with the blogs.

Give yourself lots of grace, Steph! I'm glad to get here when I can. :)

  33. Glad to hear that Carter is doing so well in school! You must be very proud of him!

I know what you mean about blogging and cleaning and family and time for yourself. I still haven't figured out how to balance that equation!
