Mommy Bloggers: Please Remember To Feed Your Children!

I know that blogging is addicting- I've seen it happen to me, where all I want to do is read blogs all day and comment, post, check comments on my own blog... and the cycle never ends! But all things in moderation, right? You have got to put things in priority order and I don't think checking Bloglines like a fiend should come before, say, your kids' needs or your job!

I'm quite appalled by the recent news story about a couple that horrifically neglected their children because of their Internet addiction. But, I can't say it surprises me. Sometimes you need to step away from the computer! I find it quite ironic that there must be Mommy Bloggers that spend more time blogging about their children than actually experiencing real life moments with them!

I am declaring for myself a blog-free day for the rest of today. I'm going to get in some extra kisses and tickle time and we're off to a picnic at the park!

The Kangaroodle contest ends tomorrow night, too!

  2. Good for you! I only blog when Bubbie is sleeping! I don't have enough hours in the day with him already! I do blog at work, but my job isn't that demanding EVERY DAY! We have a lot of down time!

  3. I heard about that story too....crazy. Can't say I'm surprised either, glad they got caught.

  4. Gosh, I have totally seen this addiction cropping up in my life! I hadn't heard about that story,.but it's awful. We should start a little "bloggers for moderation" club or something that shows our commitment to keeping blogging in its proper place. Fun, yes, but not the end-all.

    Have a great, blog-free day!

  5. OMGoodness! That makes me completely sick and overwhelmingly sad! Those poor babies! So glad they are ok now.

Some days I find myself shocked at how long I've been at the computer! But I could never neglect my children - oh my heart is breaking for those little ones! I'm glad you shared this.

I have just been thinking that maybe I need to step back and not read everyone else's blogs so much - it really is time consuming.
And although my children aren't suffering or being neglected, I don't know if I can say the same about my house - floors, laundry, etc.! LOL!

  6. That is so sad. Some days the computer just needs to be switched off. Have a great picnic!! That's a great idea!

  7. ICK! And now you know why I don't set up my laptop anymore. All in moderation!!!

  8. Good for you, Steph! I hope you finish your picnic before the rain comes. I know what you mean about being 'addicted' to blogging, though. While I'm new to this whole thing...I do the same thing. Check other sites, check mine for comments, etc. Life is all about balance.

  12. That is just crazy!! Mine don't let me ignore them for long! ;)

We all have to find a balance! It took me a little while to find mine.

  13. I read that article too- it makes my stomach sick. I feel so bad for those children.

  14. This is kinda what I was blogging about yesterday. About my home based business not taking over my life. How I'm home for my kids. Good for you on taking the day off.

I'm usually on the computer about 2 hours total each day...broken up throughout the day. Most of the work at home mom I know work much more than that and I just don't know how they do it.

They are either better at balancing things, working really late into the night, or something gets neglected...hopefully not the kids.

  15. Good for you and the boys..take your umbrellas. They need mom's full attention sometimes. I don't know how you blogging mom's do it...I can't catch up yet on my own blog or reading and I don't have little ones at home anymore, but I do work a full time job outside the home. I can see how it can become addicting...but should NOT be at your own children's expense.....

  16. Oh. My. God. That isn't just being ignored a bit. That's severe neglect. Hair matted with cat urine???? I'm appalled!

  17. What an incredibly sad story!

    Enjoy your day off.

  20. That's such a crazy story. I usually only get online on "my time" when both boys are napping because it makes me feel so guilty when I'm typing away while they're around. Oh, and Josey has starting saying "Awww, when are you going to be done on the computer, Mommy". That really helps :)

  22. I don't know how moms do it today with blogging and small children. When my son was small there was no way I could have blogged he needed all my time, I couldn't go to the bathroom by myself, it was nuts.

  23. Good for you! I've been thinking about taking weekends off from blogging. Maybe setting a few things to auto post or something, but otherwise unplugging myself from the computer! ;)

  24. Wow, as a former social worker and a mom, that is just disturbing. I rarely blog when my daughter is awake as she would never let that happen! :) She likes mommy's attention a little too much. I know someday it's not going to be that way though so I think I'll eat it up while I can!

Have a good, blog free day!

you deserve a day off! hope you have a good one. :)

  26. This has totally been on my mind lately! Finding balance and making sure that I'm not blogging more than parenting. :-)

    Good reminder. Thanks.

  27. So sad. Kids grow up so fast, I agree that we need to spend as much time with them as we can.

Have a great day at the park!

  28. That is such a brutal story isn't it!!!! It is so important to put our kids before our computers!!!

Enjoy your day with the kids :)

  29. That story made me feel so sad for those kids. As a parent you have an obligation to rise above any type of addiction you have - your children depend on you!

I hope your picnic in the park was fantastic!

  30. How awful. Blogging is much lower on the priority list for me these days and it's hardly ever when Cricket is awake. Unless it's one of THOSE days!

  31. I was totally appalled as well!

That said, I'm having to keep my solitaire in check! :-)

  32. Sometimes it's easy to forget that those horrible things happen in the world. I feel bad enough when I have to tell my children to wait a minute before we can play much less hours of neglect like these people did. I feel angry and appalled.

  33. Oh my goodness! I am not sure what is happening to people these days! It seems like every time you turn on the news it gets worse and worse! :(

You are such a wonderful mom! I am sure the kiddos enjoyed the time you spent with them today!

  34. How funny! I saw that on yahoo and wrote a post about it, too. I can't believe how they're calling the internet the same kind of addiction as drugs. Unbelievable!

  35. Thats weird that you talked about this, i was just talking to my sister yesterday telling her that i have really slacked on my blog entries and keeping up with everyone else because i have busy with my children, but i told her i guess it was better to be spending quality time with them other than writting about spending quality time with them.

  36. Good for you!!! This is why I often drop off for several days. It's more important to spend time collecting kisses than bloghits. :)

  37. OMGosh! Poor babies, the idea of an 11mo that is only 10lb seems so sad. Even my little peanuts have weight much more than that.

    So sad. :(

I hope you enjoyed your picnic!!!!
