And Now For One Of Those Really Important Decisions In Life

Bangs or No Bangs?

I have a hair appointment scheduled for next week and can't decide what I want to do with my hair! This is the longest I've gone in a while without a trim or cut. I've really enjoyed it short, but was thinking about growing it longer again and maybe doing some major bangs. I totally like the bangs in this picture. Is it me? I don't really want to do the wispy or piece-y kind. I want the bold, blunt, thick kind. The side swept bangs don't work on me because I end up just tucking them and then it looks like I don't have bangs at all.

I am always on the fence if I want to do bangs or not, then will see someone with really cute bangs. And I don't mind being daring and going for it, I'm adventurous like that.

Usually I just tell my stylist to do whatever she wants but she likes a little guidance from me, too. I like having my hair all one length with no bangs, but it's starting to drive me nutty having so much hair in my face lately, and I can't get a good pony tail without wearing a headband, too. Oh, the trials in life!

P.S. Hubby has just chimed in that he doesn't know about this bang thing. When he thinks of bangs, all he can think of is Kathy Griffin "and that's not good."

  1. Not sure those bangs would look good with the length of your hair...however, wispy bangs would be great on you.

  2. I have bangs and when I don't like them, I use a headband or pull them back in a barrett. It is nice cause I can have either or. If it was me, I would go first with less dramatic bangs and if you like them go for major bangs.

  3. I think I might agree with Trista. If your hair was the length of the girl in the picture, I say go for it! But then again, it's only hair. It will grow back, so why not be a little adventurous if you're feeling up to it?!

    Aren't I such a big help?! ;o)

  4. Hi there. I know you are the sling expert since you own a billion of them so I need some advice.
I have a ring sling that I love. I like the closeness that my baby gets and how tight he is to me so I can get some stuff done but I would like a two shoulder one. I think I'm making myself a little cooked by always holding him on one shoulder!!! Should I go for the Mei Tei?? will it really get him nice and tight to me??
    thanks

  5. I'm not a fan of the bangs in that picture. I think your style is cute without bangs if you keep it short.

  6. I would say wispy bangs would be really cute. The only thing I ever did not like about having bangs was the upkeep. So, I did grow them out but I miss them sometimes. I like the way they soften the face/hairline sometimes.

  7. I always thought that I'd hate bangs and that they'd be itchy etc... but nevertheless I let my hairdresser cut them anyway. And now I think they are such an improvement!

by the way, bangs are quite fashionable lately, even very short ones or asymetric ones.

  8. If your husband is going to compare you with Kathy Griffin, I would SKIP THE BANGS!

  9. I'm not big on bangs, but hey, they might look really cute on you!

Just a question about the mamaspeaks site. How can I get the button to work on my blog? So far it doesn't even show up. Also, there are no dates on the posts, so I'm not sure when your contests are from, or if they are already over. It's a great site by the way!

  10. You know me and the whole bang thing. I am on either side!!! One month I love no-bangs, the next I love the bombshell swept-to-the-side look.

For now I am growing mine out -- just easier!!!! I looked at your Throwback Thursday and your hair was cute then. BUT, you would look very stylish with a blunt bang. It's very you!!!

Good grief, did I confuse you more???? SORRY!!!

  11. Hmmm...bangs, huh? Well, I have to say that I am not really a bang fan...my mom made me have bangs until i left for college and then I grew them out and LOVE it way better. For me, bangs just get in the way, and I always thought you could tell more if you had to skip a shower for a day or 2...cuz the bangs look more "greasy!" haha! :) Anyways, if you want them, I say go for it...it you hate them afterwards, they'll grow long again, right?! :)

  12. Personally, I'm not a bangs kind of girl (something about the cowlick in the center of my forehead!), but I really think you could pull off the blunt bang. However, if it is going to envoke thoughts of Kathy Griffin in the hubby, I would go without. :-)

  13. I periodically cut bangs, very Cleopatra or Cher in the '60s. It is a pretty dramatic change. My mother hates bangs more than anything but I like them, especially when it's hot and I seem to live in a ponytail.

  14. I think you could rock any hair style, even short short short! I personally LOVE having bands. Mine arent as thick as the 1st girl... but their not as thin as the other photo either. Their inbetween.. and i keep them longer.. this way I can go without bangs if needed. Although I prefer having them ;-)

I do the side swipe bang a lot. I love it. Really easy and simple to style.

    Best of luck deciding!

  15. Ahhh... the age old question! I must say... I absolutely look horrible with bangs. I had them in NYC a couple years back and they just were YUCK on me. The weird thing is... my hair got wavy after my 2nd son was born.. I used to have pin straight hair and then the wave came... and came... and came. So my bangs looked odd wavy. But I will say - bangs with a ponytail is so cute! Love that look!

  16. Mkay, just tossing in my two cents here. Since I am a jill of al trades have my stylist license, I'm all for throwing caution to the wind & CHOPPING! Its hair, it grows back. And if its a color you end up not liking, there's always more colors to choose from.
You're poor Hub thinking about her when he thinks bangs! I think you'd totally ROCK the straight thick bang chop!!

  17. I am no hair expert - matter of fact I hate my hair - but I say GO FOR IT why the heck not? It's not like it will grow back, it will - so why the heck not...

  18. Sometime you just want something different and it is just hair. If your hair is anything like mine it will grow very fast. I have to have mine cut every 5 weeks or it looks like I need a dog license. I don't know if you watch NCIS but Pauly Perrette wears bangs. Or if you want some really big change go for a color change like platinum blonde or bright red like one of your great grandmothers had or auburn like one of your other great grandmothers had.

  19. I can't believe the timing of this post! I just got back from the salon with my "Mischa Barton" bangs! I go back and forth all the time between what I call "french hooker" bangs and longer side swept bangs. I'll post a pic tomorrow on my blog if you want to see. I say GO FOR IT! You have a fun style and will look good with them. Don't do wispy, they're done. If you're gonna do bangs, own it. Just my 2 cents.

  20. I'm a bangs person...probably cause I have a birthmark that looks like a piece of cereal on my forehead. I think you look great in bangs..you look exotic with your beautiful eyes. I love the short bob with bangs...but of course I am partial to short hair.

  21. Dramatic bangs are totally in. Go for it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. You're so stylish- you could totally pull off those bangs. Go for it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. i say, if you do the bangs, definitely go with the bold, blunt cut bangs. you could totally pull it off (you're one of the lucky ones!). i hated bangs on me, until i saw a very unflattering picture of myself with my hair pulled back and i looked like an egghead.

my husband hates bangs too, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do...

  24. I love the thick bangs on straight asian hair. However, my hair, eventhough it won't hold a curl to save it's life, made for some crazy, unruly bangs. And then you are stuck growing them out FOR.EV.ER. Quite a commitment so I vote NO.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm going to be a little stick-in-the-mud (which is so not like me) and vote "no bangs"... just think of the bobby pins involved when you decide you're tired of them and want to grow them out. That's assuming that you even like them to begin with!

Of course I'm going to "talk out of the other side of my mouth" and say that you could totally rock the bangs if anyone could! 'Cause you're so darn cute!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think the solid bangs would look really cute and very fashionable on you. I couldn't wear them - my face is waaaay too square - but they would look great.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh yes, bang it up! I totally see thick bangs on ya.

I just posted about my own hair dilema if you want to leave your opinion: http://casualfridayeveryday.com/im-ready-for-a-change/

  28. If you want bangs go for it, thats the best thing about hair - you hate it and just wait a few months for it to grow out of it. I love the heavy bangs look and would love to get it done myself but my hair never sits with bangs

    ReplyDelete
  29. I've never been a fan of straight across bangs - so maybe you could do a longer sideswept bang to start off with? Then, if you luff them, you can go for the more dramatic bangs. You'd look great with them, I'm sure.

  30. How'd I miss this! If you grow your hair out, you'd look awesome with straight bangs... You're hair is so thick it would be perfect for you... I can't picture bangs with your current cut though...

Did I tell you I made hair cut appointment!!! FINALLY! Thought you'd be proud of me!

  31. I got bangs a few months ago after not having them since my mom grew them out when I was a wee one. I got a lot of nice compliments on them, but then I seriously started regretting them. I really hate having hair banging on my face all day long, and I'm trying to grow them out as quick as possible.

But don't let me stop you! :) (Ha! That sounds major-ly passive-aggressive, don't it?)

  32. To cut or not to cut. . .hmmm. . .yu really really want a change but you can't figure out what to change, right?

Buuuut it sounds like you've already got your mind made up...I do agree with some of the commentors....(I think)Thick bangs look better with longer hair.

You need to post a recent up close (front on) picture of yourself....and try clipping some of your hair from the back to the front to get an idea.

I'm no help...just post a picture next week of your new bangs.LOL!

  33. Go for it! When I chopped all my hair off a couple of years ago, one moment I was all "It's just hair, it'll grow back if I don't like it" and the next minute I was freaking out that I'd look all manly. LOL

Let us know how your new 'do goes either way! :)

  34. hair thing I can't help people with I just cut off all my hair and what a complete wreck it is. I've always liked your hair in any style you wear, it grows back no matter what you do. That what I told myself this last time and I hope it grows fast. Good luck Steph.

  35. OK I always say anyone can wear their hair long and all one length but it takes a really stylish, hip, mod (whatever you want to call it) person to have a funky short cut with bangs. And you are definitely all those things. This way of thinking has almost led to my divorce several times since my husband is very clear of his preference of long, all one length hair. Guys have such a skewed perception of short hair/bangs. Your husband will change his tune after it's done.

Screw wispy bangs, that's how you'll end up looking like Kathy! The more bold the better. With that said I think the think blunt would look better with a little length. I used to have the thick blunt with a short bob, when my hair was a little straighter and looking back it wasn't the right balance. Wish I could find a picture to show you. Kind of over done but I'll always be a fan of the Betty Paige and I miss having them. But I love super short, choppy and asymmetrical bangs or very thick, blunt and asymmetrical. Although my hair bends all silly so I have to have my bangs short enough to avoid this. These were my faves although hard to tell in the pic, they look a little wispy there. And if you want a really horrendous example. Can't believe I'm even sharing that one.

You can't go wrong and please don't let my current stale look fool you, I know what I'm talking about ;) Totally kidding there.

  36. Personally I prefer bangs but don't have them because:

    1. My hubby doesn't like them.
    2. They make me get pimples on my forehead because I have ultra oily hair.
    3. They never look right on me because half of them faces one way and the other faces the other way. That's my hair though.

Looking at pics of you, I think you look fine without bangs but if you want to try it, go for it. I think you'd look good with them too. Just don't get Kathy Griffin whispy bangs, get full ones.

  37. I think you look better without bangs.

By the way, how do you manage to even get a hair cut? Who watches your kids? (I'm finding that it's hard to pee by myself with 2 kids, much less go to the dentist or the OB-GYN... OR get a haircut!) :)

  38. Steph,

Any decisions yet? I posted my hairstyle decisions: http://casualfridayeveryday.com/im-gonna-do-it/

Curious if you decided yet. :)

  39. I'm always going back and forth on this one too. When I have bangs, I want to let them grow out and when I don't, I'm thinking about getting them.

So, what have you decided? I think you'd look good either way.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think if anyone can pull off the thick blunt bangs it's you!! And I think they'd look cute with your current style! I can't wait to see what you do (or already did!)!!
