...And Dirt Don't Hurt

Stephanie_kissing_boo_booSomeone really has conducted a scientific study of the five-second rule. Next they'll be testing the claim that Mommy's kisses really make boo-boos feel better. And if you cross your eyes they'll stick like that. If you eat your spinach you'll really have muscles like Popeye.

I only hope that restaurants and people with hairy cats having me over for dinner don't practice this 5-second rule.

Apparently women were more likely to invoke the 5-second rule, and overall, people are inclined to eat dropped cookies and candy more often than dropped broccoli and cauliflower. Well sheesh, forget a scientific study- I could've told you that!

  1. I heard on the radio the other day that a scientific study was done on double dipping, too. YEESH!

  2. Apparently they coated the floor with e.coli for the five second testing - I'd really rather eat cat hair.

  4. It's doggy hair on the food grid!!! LOL. My son LOVES the 5 second rule. Believe me he is quick to get the good stuff that hits the floor.

  5. That's a sweet picture. Not sure my stance on the 5-second rule (even though I've followed it before!), but I 100% believe that mommy's kisses make boo-boos better. :)

  6. Aw, what a cute picture!

So those are some pretty groundbreaking results, huh!? But seriously, sometimes you just don't want to waste a perfectly good cookie just because it fell on the ground for a few seconds!

  9. I know Mythbusters did the 5 second rule, but really did we REALLY need scientific research???

And yeah, we only invoke the 5 second rule at our house - at least I know that dirt!

  10. My "boyfriend" in the 4th grade used to say... "God made dirt, dirt don't hurt, so put it in your mouth and make it work..."

  11. Seriously, we can't control everything that goes into our bodies. I am of the belief that nature has intended for us to ingest miniscule amounts of all sorts of icky stuff, to toughen us up. Obviously, I won't be licking the floor or the toilet seat, but I think the potential for getting sick from either is small. And I rarely use anything other than soap and water to clean (if I remember...) and we RARELY get sick.

  12. Dirt is one thing...yucky bacteria another. I think the 5 second rule depends on which floor the food is dropped!! Restaurant, no way. Home, maybe.

  13. I totally invoke that rule with the peanut. If I didn't she'd never eat! :)

  14. My hubby just heard about this on the radio. He said that carpet is supposed to be the dirtiest, although in the study you linked they didn't use carpet. I guess I shouldn't let the Beast eat her cheerios off the floor anymore? LOL
