I have a large world map above my desk that truly fascinates me.
I am not really that great with geograpy (seriously- when I first put this up I thought they had left Hawaii off.) Did you realize how far away from the continent Hawaii is!?
The idea of visiting other countries seems so exciting. I find myself praying over the map every time I look up at it, Show us Lord where you want us to go.I taped the following quote to the bottom of the map:
God doesn't call the qualified, he qualifies the called.
Sometimes I expect to look up at the map and have a clear answer- maybe a bright light will shine on "the country" we are called to go do whatever God wants us to do. I also know very well that maybe He doesn't need us to go very far at all.
Whether I travel to New Zealand (hopefully someday) or to the grocery store (almost everyday!), I know I am one of the called. He may not need me to even step outside my house, as I could be called for the sole purpose of raising these three Godly men.
I pray I am always sensitive to God's call for my life, and never view my ministry as wife, mom, and friend as less than. I pray the same for you today. It's a jungle in here... I can't imagine sometimes what it's like out there!
Awesome quote! Awesome post!! truly!
ReplyDeleteI think you already are doing what you are called to do. You are making yourself more and more "qualified" everyday in your role as "virtuous wife" you are constantly looking at ways to make yourself, your family, and your house better, physically and spiritually. That's a huge undertaking. You are forming your little "arrows" to be shot into the future (from Fight Like a Girl). Also, I think you have a large ministry to other moms right here on your blog. You challenge other moms to be better and you often use The Word to do it. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteVery true!
ReplyDeleteWe had a missionary couple return from their mission and they spoke to us on Sunday. Even in a line at the grocery store, they were able to share the gospel. You can certainly be a missionary everywhere... even here in blog world!
Thanks for this post!
Very true. And Sheryl is right, you do have a ministry right here.
ReplyDeleteAnd I just want to add...that is an awesome map. Where did it come from? Lil Monte would LOVE it!
Beautiful post!
ReplyDeleteWhen we get postcards from people on their travels (and I always bug people to send us postcards on their travels), we look them up on our big map. It's really given my kids an idea that we live in a great big world.
Great and wonderful!!! I love how you tie things together!
ReplyDeleteThanks again for the magazine, it was a nice gift in the mail yesterday!!!
The map was pretty cheap from Staples (office supply store.)
ReplyDeleteI love maps too. Have you ever seen this one? http://www.petersmap.com/ I think it's fascinating. Great post!
ReplyDeletewell said.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I too agree you definitely have a ministry right here... will be neat to see if you're called elsewhere though! We've had Africa weighing on us - the children there! After Christmas we were all but ready to pack up and go... I love this - "God doesn't call the qualified, he qualifies the called" I think so many wait, they feel unprepared and don't realize that God will equip you too if you make the first move!
ReplyDeleteAt my church there is a message above the main entrance/exit. As you are leaving it reads: You are now entering the mission field.
ReplyDeleteHow often we forget that there are so many lost souls right here in the US that have never heard about the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I pray you (and I) can be a good servant and testimony wherever we are, now and in the future.
Have a blessed day!
I remember goofing with Google Earth amazed at how large, but yet small, this world is. God truly is big with big plans!
ReplyDeleteNew Zealand is beautiful. I lived there for 5 years.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good quote to remember. I hope we are all open to His calling, whatever it may be. good post!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Peanut Butter and Jelly Boats.....you have your calling.
ReplyDeleteStephanie~ I really enjoyed this. I do need to be reminded that if this is my calling, then it is a worthy calling, not less than. Some people can try to make stay at home moms feel that way. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWonderful attitude!
ReplyDeleteThe mission field is everywhere - wherever the Lord leads you, you are a missionary!
It's great to be willing and prepared to go! Good on ya.
ReplyDeleteWe have a giant map at the church - we have to put it back up on the wall. It gives us great inspiration.
You hit the nail on the head. God can be calling us to do exactly what we are doing right this moment! Great post...
ReplyDeleteYou made me cry!
ReplyDeleteDon't know if this was already said, but your most impt. ministry is in your home. You are raising up Men of God. I love your blog and I think you definitely are reaching people, even from your couch!!
ReplyDeleteThat map is such a wonderful reminder to keep your heart and mind open to the things that God may want you to do or be in this world. Thats AWESOME!
