We foolishly thought that when the cold weather came that they would go away or something. Well, turns out that they would like to come inside.
It started out as just one in the basement. Then another. Each day we find at least one new yellow jacket buzzing about around my laundry. I can't go in there! I've never been stung before and I'm not going to start now!
Today the exterminator is coming- they've already done an estimate. I guess we need to get rid of them ASAP or they start eating through the house- wood & paint & all... and it looks like we have a mighty colony taking up residence here.
Then I can go back to doing laundry like a normal person (without fly swatter in hand and running out of the basement dropping everything if I hear a buzz.)
aaachhh! hope they get them all!
ReplyDeleteI'm imagining you starring in a Hitchcock film--something like The Birds, only with giant wasps rather than birds.
ReplyDeleteI bet they built some nest either in the ground or maybe within the siding. Seems during these fall months when the temps fall they try to make their way inside for warmth.
ReplyDeleteLet me know what happens!!!!

ReplyDeleteGoodbye bees! Here's to being able to do laundry and use your front door again! :) Now if only I could find a way to get rid of all of the box elder bugs that are invading my house!
ReplyDeleteYuck! how frightening... especially w/ kids. Good luck. Great excuse not to do laundry though.
ReplyDeleteHowever... I drove by a laundry mat the other day and had a whole new perspective. What if I took an afternoon and did my laundry there? With no distractions/kids? I could take a book, my iPod, some coffee and just be. Hmmm....
Eeek! I hope they can gat it taken care of! Bzzzzzzzzzz
ReplyDeleteoh girl. I see that you're in the Midwest and when we were there, the first lesson we got was on wasps, yellow jackets, etc. They were awful in the spring and summer. They like to eat wood and were constantly on the playset which made us all nervous. We have wasps here in TN and they are making their way inside. Dave wants to set off a bomb in the house but I have visions of us coming home and the whole place being up in flames.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Amy
I have never been stung either, but the boys have and they are SOOOO scared of bees. But Hunter was stung 5 times in the stomach a couple summers ago, so he has a good reason.
ReplyDeleteNow that's a sentence I don't hear very often. :o) But it is a nice excuse to skip laundry for a few days...
ReplyDeleteLook on the bright side...no laundry........
ReplyDeleteI've never been stung either so I am also scared of anything with a stinger! I would be the same as you and let the laundry pile up!! Good for you for calling an exterminator.
ReplyDeleteUchhh! I hate bugs! Why do they have to ruin our lives?! In my last place it was spiders, spiders everywhere...now it's monstrous flying aliens. waaaaaah
